“The Lace Chronicles #19”
30″ x 30″ Acrylic on Canvas
I became a member of The Cowichan Valley Arts Council and made this painting to enter into the 41st Cowichan Valley Fine Arts Show. “The Lace Chronicles #19” was the first of my work to be exhibited publicly.
Entering into the show was exciting if not somewhat nerve racking. Oh my…people were going to see. It felt like a dream where you find yourself in a public situation and realize that you are naked. Completely vulnerable.
My husband Chris went with me to the opening night and I was so glad to have him by my side. That evening as Chris and I were mulling over the art at the show, we ran into Jennifer Lawson, a wonderfully talented, successful watercolor artist. We were initially introduced to Jennifer and her husband Mike when we first moved to Vancouver Island by Chris’s brother and sister-in-law and would occasionally see each other socially. On a few occasions Jennifer elicited my help when she was participating in a studio tour or travelling up island to a show.
