Summer Thistle #1
16″ x 20″ Acrylic on 3/4″ Canvas
The summer of 2011 on Vancouver Island was crap! Weatherwise, the entire summer was rainy and dull and cool. It wasn’t until September that the sun finally decided to come out and give us an Indian summer. Having spent most of the summer indoors, when the nice weather hit, I decided to do some painting outside. That September day I lugged all my painting stuff out to the patio table. When I laid the canvas down on the table, something magical happened. A flowerpot, hanging overhead, cast its shadow upon the canvas and this beautiful intricate design danced across the surface of the canvas. I set to work quickly laying down the design before the sun moved.
